I use oils, pastels and acrylics to portray the characters of flowers and the atmospheric qualities of landscape. These may be traditional, modern or abstract in appearance.
I began painting in the 1970's as an interest, but it has remained with me as a consuming activity ever since then. Born in Somerset, I followed a full-time scientific career until 1989; taking higher qualifications in medical science subjects in the late 1970's.
Most of my early artwork was landscape; floral topics were not explored until the late 1990's. I started with oils but now use soft pastels and acrylics as well.
I have participated in many local exhibitions, offering mainly traditional-styled work, and have taken several Best In Show awards for pastels. In 1999 my first website was set up, and this was replaced by the current site that I have, in 2001.
Over the past few years I have worked a lot with flower themes, producing close-up, semi abstract views in oils and acrylics on canvas. In 2007 I was pleased to have a painting included in the Search Press book "The Acrylic Flower Painters' A to Z".
I prefer to work with more than just floral themes, however, and have been developing new ideas for landscape and abstract subjects. Some of these will appear here at my ZeroOneArt gallery. |
